Tidal rivers are magical places.

At low tide meandering streams cross shining mudflats. At high tide vast expanses of water reflect the changing light of wide skies.

We visit two of the most beautiful tidal rivers in East Anglia beginning with time to buy morning coffee at a farm overlooking the River Orwell and mix sightseeing from the coach and a visit to the ancient heart of Ipswich with an afternoon tea cruise on the Deben.

Meet the Blue Badge Guide at 10.30am at The Suffolk Food Hall, not far from Ipswich, on a working farm with breathtaking views over the River Orwell. Once famous for the Suffolk Trinity of pedigree Punch horses, Suffolk sheep and Red Poll cattle, today the farm is a showcase for local foods. We start the day with coffee and a pastry included in the tour fee.

A drive across the Orwell Bridge takes us to one of our oldest towns.

The Saxon port of Ipswich was part of Kingdom of East Anglia, whose 7th century King was probably the man laid to rest at Sutton Hoo.

In a ten-minute flat walk we'll show you some Ipswich gems including the incredible cake-icing exterior of the Ancient House on the Buttermarket before breaking for free time for lunch.

In the afternoon sit back and enjoy a ninety-minute cruise on the River Deben. The tidal estuary is one of the most scenic spots on the East coast in area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Our on board commentary will tell of its rich wildlife and history. Tea and cake is included.

We return to the quay where your coach will be waiting to head home by 4.45pm.
