FLANDERS & SWANN TRIBUTE SHOW IN SURREY
Michael Flanders and Donald Swann, were at the heart of 50's and 60's satire in the form of the theatrical revue. Enjoy a glorious wallow in the past with our tip-
It's not an impersonation show, but singer John Knowles and keyboard player Paul Higgs are serendipitously similar in appearance to the originals and their quick wit and exemplary musicianship are put to good use in recreating the magic of a Flanders & Swann performance.
With visits to RHS Wisley on the way and Brooklands Motor Museum on the way home this two day treat based at the plush HQ of the Police Federation in Surrey is a real tonic.
Day One: Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
Wisley, the flagship garden of the Royal Horticultural Society is all about inspirational gardening.
The summer borders will take your breath away and in the spectacular glasshouse you can take a journey around the world in plants. Arrive to buy lunch on site, enjoy a wander and check in at the hotel, a 30 minute drive away, with plenty of time to rest before dinner and the show.
Singer John Knowles has music in his blood. An international pop star in his youth, his intimate vocal style and warm humour lends itself easily to his hero Michael Flanders. John has collaborated on a number of musical projects with great friend Paul Higgs on keyboards who is a former musical director of the National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company.
Our affectionate tribute to the genius of Flanders & Swann will delight you with all the favourites from The Gnu and The Gas Man Cometh to the Hippopotamus Song (Mud, Mud, Glorious Mud). The boys also tip their hats to some of the other virtuosos of the comic song, with John confessing that he's waited over 30 years to sing "beat me on the bottom with the Woman's Weekly". The show is performed after dinner.
Day Two: After breakfast, check out and take the 30 minute drive to Brooklands Motor Museum for some more vintage fun at the birthplace of British motorsport and aviation.
Your ticket includes Concorde. Buy lunch on site and head home by 3pm.
