A CITY & VILLAGE TOURS DAYTRIP

HAMPSTEAD & THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

The old village of Hampstead sits high above the rest of London. It was our Montmartre - artists and writers were drawn here by the clean air and cheap rents. Cheap no longer. Select and opulent it is said that Hampstead has more millionaires than almost anywhere else in London. The day includes a tasty roast lunch in the nearest that London gets to a country pub and some free time for shopping.

Arrive at noon for an early lunch and head home from the centre of London at 6.30pm. It’s a Jam Buster, helping you to avoid the rush hour traffic at both ends of the day.

The tour guide will be waiting for you in Hampstead at midday. Lunch is roast turkey with a cup of tea or coffee. You can choose and pay for desserts and bar drinks as desired on the day. The pub is in the centre of the village surrounded by an interesting mix of unique traders and boutique style shops. It is up market, old-fashioned and rather lovely. You can choose to spend all the time here shopping or join the guide for a gentle walking trail through beautiful streets and alleys lined with gorgeous Georgian and Victorian houses to Hampstead Old Church where John Constable lies buried alongside a surprising number of TV stars of past years including Kay Kendal, Anton Walbrook and Joan Collin’s mum!

At 3.30pm we wend our way to central London as dusk and then dark falls for the Christmas Lights and Sights tour. London is a dandy at night. As well as the shopping streets so much is illuminated now - from the bridges and river embankments to the state of the art sky scrapers that have pierced the sky in recent y ears. It is breath taking.

In this day and age it pays to be savvy about the traffics so we will plan the route of your tour and make a stop at the end that is ideal for y our route home. It could be Covent Garden, Spitalfields, or the ice rinks at the Natural History Museum, the Tower, or Somerset House or it could even be at the state of the art St Pancras Station to see one of London’s most impressive Christmas trees.

You’ll head off at 6.30pm on emptier roads.
