A CITY & VILLAGE TOURS DAYTRIP

MAD JACK FULLER CHRISTMAS LUNCH

Ring the changes on the same old Christmas lunch for your group this year with Christmas lunch with a morning of sightseeing and an afternoon of good company, board games and quizzing. This day is based near Battle on the A21 in East Sussex so it’s within easy reach without touching the M25 for many groups including you folk tucked away in the Medway Towns as the A229 leads straight onto the A21.

We start the day at 10.30am to buy morning refreshments at an old inn in a lovely setting opposite Bodiam Castle before driving up into the Sussex Hills where you will really feel that you are on top of the world! Even in winter this is a beautiful drive and from high in the coach and with a top notch guide there are some great views and wonderful stories to tell.

We pass through mediaeval Battle where Harold died at the Battle of Hastings on our way to Brightling, home of Mad Jack Fuller. This eccentric Georgian Squire is famous for his follies, some of which we see today and he lies forever more in his own massive pyramid in the churchyard. Inside this ancient church nearly 200 years ago he installed the biggest barrel organ in Britain. It’s still here and we are going to play it for you - and fittingly it’ll be a Christmas carol and one you know so you can all join in! And that should just about whet your whistle for lunch and an afternoon of fun and games and snoozes.

Mad Jack Fuller was a patron of the artist JMW Turner who painted the view that we see today from the huge picture windows of the freshly restored pub restaurant. And what a view! It stretches right across the Vale of Ashburnham and all the way to Beachy Head - take it all in with a glass of sherry or prosecco as you walk in the door. Take a seat for Christmas lunch with all the trimmings served at festively decorated tables.

The tour fee includes the sherry or prosecco and the main course Christmas lunch plus tea and coffee served with mince pies before heading home. It’s up to you if you want to include a small dessert with coffee for everyone or leave that for individuals to decide on the day.

After lunch you’ll spend the afternoon together making this a very sociable Christmas event. One to remember. You can play cards or a board game, simply enjoy a good chinwag over a slow bottle of wine or take part in the guide’s Quiz of the Year. Or of course you could doze off by the fire for an hour!

At 3.45pm we’ll serve tea and coffee with mince pies before you set off home at 4.45pm.
