Winter Break on The Old Kent coast

November 2018 to the end of March 2019 - 5 days

Five Day Dinner, Bed & Breakfast at The Burlington Hotel, Folkestone with an exhilarating programme of sightseeing. Includes two days with Blue Badge Guide, all admissions, two lunches an after dinner talk with TV antiques expert Alison Chapman.

The Burlington Hotel

This is a cracking 3* family run hotel nearing the completion of a total refurbishment which will see it rebranded as a 4* Best Western. The hotel is in the upmarket West End of Folkestone just off the Leas with a pleasant walk along to the beaches, old harbour arm and fish market. It's the hotel that local groups prefer - the Shepway U3A and local Probus and Rotary clubs all meet here and hold their Christmas lunches here.

There are 60 bedrooms, the housekeeping is immaculate and the staff are genuinely friendly and go all out to ensure your comfort. We have a five day holiday based at this hotel called Sissinghurst & The Cinque Ports (see the SleepOver tab for more details). For winter 2018/2019 we have sightseeing suited to the season and as a special feature you'll be joined by TV antiques expert Alison Chapman (Secret Dealers and Dickinson's Real Deal) who will join you after dinner for a talk about her 35 year antiques career. Alison will also bring some very unusual and fascinating antiques for a fun SHOW & TELL. The holiday runs Monday to Friday.

The Holiday

Day One Monday: This is a coach inclusive package. Our coach collects you at pick points to suit your group. En route to Folkestone we have booked a two course lunch with coffee in the mediaeval Pilgrims Hall and time to enjoy the beautiful modern art in the chapels around the shrine at Aylesford Priory on the banks of the River Medway (just off the M20/M2).

If you arrive here for lunch around 1pm you'll be checking in at the Burlington by 4.30pm - just right for a wash and brush up before the first of your three course, three choice dinners.

After dinner tonight you'll be joined by TV antiques expert and Kent Business Woman of the Year Alison Chapman for an entertaining talk and unusual antiques SHOW & TELL.

Day Two Tuesday: A top notch Blue Badge Guide from the award winning City & Village Tours team arrives after breakfast for a day out exploring the Romney Marsh, including the marsh churches, Dungeness, a fish & chip lunch at the famous Pilot Inn and a visit to historic and beautiful Rye. In the evening you can add the option of a night at the Leas Cliff Hall, which is a 10 minute flat walk from the hotel.

Day Three Wednesday: Free day in resort. The coach is on hand to take those who want to into Canterbury for the afternoon with the option to sit with the choir for Choral Evensong at Canterbury Cathedral at 5.30pm, returning to the hotel in time for dinner at 7.30pm.

Day Four Thursday: The Blue Badge Guide returns for a day out along the coast in the opposite direction to Tuesday. This morning we visit the Scramble Experience at the Battle of Britain Memorial (2018 is the Centenary of the Royal Air Force and the 25th Anniversary of the Memorial). At Dover there's a photo stop at the top of the famous White Cliffs and following free time for lunch in the Georgian fishing town of Deal we visit Walmer Castle, the official residence of the Warden of the Cinque Ports and fear not, this is more like a small stately home than a castle so there aren't hundreds of steps! On Thursday evenings there’s a free Jazz night at the Grand Hotel next door to the Burlington.

Day Five Friday: Our week away concludes with an exhilarating safari at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park. This important breeding sanctuary returns endangered species, including black rhinos and gorillas, to the wild.It is beautifully set high on the old Saxon Shore with far reaching views across the Romney Marsh and out to sea. You'll have time to enjoy a tour of the site on the safari trucks, see the gorillas at feeding time, visit the big cats and the little meerkats and buy a light lunch before making tracks for home at 3.00pm.

When you book top price tickets for West End Matinees with City & Village Tours you won’t have to pay for them until 4 weeks before you go (8 weeks for a couple of shows). So you’ll never have to risk losing money.

And for less than the face value of the ticket alone you can offer your members a top price seat for a West End matinee, a top London hotel carvery with coffee and the coach there and back!

You could come into London and start with the carvery meal, struggle to keep your eyes open during the show and then fight your way home in the rush hour. Or you could come into London around 1.00pm, grab a coffee and sticky bun near the theatre, see the show and then, when you come out of the theatre at the height of the rush hour disappear into a swish hotel for a carvery meal with lots to talk about. Then you can drive home on emptier roads.

The whole thing is a dream for group organisers with no risk to your group funds and no menu selections to collect. Just let us know if you prefer the stalls or the dress circle or a mix, tell us about anyone with special dietary requirements and that’s it.

Tell us how many tickets you want to reserve and we’ll keep them safe for you while you sign up your members. Four weeks before the show you tell us how many you want to keep, pay for them and we’ll release the rest. We’ll send your tickets special delivery to save you queuing at the box office on the day.

So What Shows Can We Choose?

Any show you want - just ask. All tickets are top price seats - the face value is between £68 and £75 but the prices below are for a top price ticket and the two-course hotel carvery with coffee at The Strand Palace Hotel.

You add your own local coach hire for a final price for your members.

Here are some price examples:

£49pp Show & Carvery

Jam Busting London Theatre & Hotel Carvery Packages mean that you miss the rush hour at both ends of the day. And by seeing the show first and having the meal afterwards, with plenty to talk about, no one will have to struggle to stay awake through the show. And when you get home? There’s no supper to make. Just kick off your shoes, bit of news headlines, bed. Lovely!

We’ll also send you very clear instructions on exactly what to do on the day for a seamless and stress free experience and we’ll send your tickets by special delivery so that you don’t have to queue up at the box office on the day.

But What About Our Coach in Theatreland?

Don’t worry, its perfectly lawful to set down on double or single yellow lines as long as you aren’t on a bus stop and you’re not blocking the road. Follow these simple rules and there’s no danger of a ticket. Ask us for more advice.
