5 days

OK we admit it. We like fine hotels and really good days out. If day one and five don't work for your direction of travel we will bespoke alternatives for you. Other hotels are available.

Day One: Stop for elevenses at the World of Wedgwood in Stoke on Trent and visit the V&A Museum.

Arrive Buxton with time to explore the town or rest before dinner.

Day Two: The Blue Badge Guide will take you on a little tour of beautiful Buxton before heading out into the Peak District National Park and some of England's most beautiful scenery.

It's Market Day in Bakewell so we'll stop to buy lunch and surround ourselves with Peak people. Jane Austen stayed in Bakewell when writing Pride & Prejudice. 200 years later the Colin Firth film was shot in the area including at Haddon Hall "the most perfect house to survive from the middle ages". We're going to enjoy the Lights, Camera, Action Tour at Haddon exploring this romantic property film by film. Back to the hotel for a little lie down before dinner together.

Day Three: No need to hurry this morning. Have a lie in or a tootle around this beautiful town before joining the coach at 1.00pm to drive to Chatsworth House. - Built by Bess of Hardwick and now the seat of the Dukes of Devonshire we'll have a one hour guided tour plus free time to enjoy the gardens.

Day Four: Today with the Guide we concentrate on the High Peaks with a scenic coach tour including the Snake Pass and the Ladybower Reservoir - famed as a practice area for the WWII Dambuster crews. We stop in Castleton where the famous Blue John stone is mined and visit the Eyam plague village. On the way back to the hotel we'll stop in small but perfectly formed Tideswell to visit the Cathedral of the Peaks.

Day Five: Check out and visit Calke Abbey "the un-stately home". The eccentric Harpur family spurned modern conveniences and had a bit of a fondness for hoarding. The National Trust present both house and collection as they found them in the 1980s. Fascinating stuff.
